What is ATG Tape and How Do You Use It?

Maybe you’ve heard of ATG tape before, maybe not. It’s essentially double-sided, reverse wound tape that usually comes on plastic rolls that fit into ATG tape dispensers. The ATG actually stands for adhesive transfer gun or sometimes advanced tape glider, which implies that this type of tape is pretty useless without the appropriate dispenser. There are many different types of ATG tape available; the thing that makes it distinctive is the method of transfer.

More on the Tape

ATG tape comes in several different sizes and styles. Distributor Tape offers WOD ATG-7502 ATG tape in 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2”, and 3/4” sizes. It is pressure-sensitive, like most commonly found adhesive tapes. It’s reverse wound for use in Tapes Supply’s WOD ATG dispensers, but WOD ATG tape refills also fit into dispensers from other brands, such as Scotch’s yellow 700 ATG tape dispenser and their pink glider, as well.

It is double-sided. When you apply this type of tape with an ATG dispenser, you place the exposed sticky side onto the surface where you need adhesive. Then, you peel off a covering to expose the adhesive on the other side of the tape. Now, you can stick two items together.

Oftentimes, ATG tape is designated as acid-free. This is because the paper is particularly susceptible to acid, often found in adhesives, and they may degrade more quickly when adhesives that are not acid-free are used. Always use acid-free adhesive on any paper item that you intend to keep, and be sure to use acid-free tape when packaging items you wish to preserve!

WOD ATG-7502 Properties

  • Uses Solvent-based adhesive
  • Acid-Free
  • Each refill is 36 yards
  • 27 oz. per inch adhesion rate

ATG Tape Dispensers

The WOD ATG 50 tape dispenser uses a special pin spool that means every last bit of the tape on each refill can be used effectively. To use the dispenser, you simply press down on a trigger button while dragging the “nozzle” of the tape dispenser along the surface where you’re sticking the tape. The trigger allows the dispenser to release tape.

ATG Tape Uses

There are lots of different uses for ATG tape. It’s great for many of the below-listed tasks because the dispenser provides a nice, smooth application of adhesive with no mess, no bunching of tape, and the ability to create straight lines.
